Kingsbrooke Academy
Kingsbrooke Academy is squatted on a small patch of green grass in the city of Carsontela. Despite the city’s sky-high crime rate and gang problems, the inhabitants try there best to make certain areas bright, cheerful and safe for their children. The Kingsbrooke Academy was such an area, neatly paved, tree lined streets lead up to the main building, with its air conditioned corridors, labs full of high tech equipment, and plenty of up to the minute modern classrooms. Sounds like something out of a brochure doesn’t it? Well, like any good brochure, I’ve conveniently left out the bad bits. The bits they don’t want you to know about. The graffiti stricken walls, the broken lighting, the blocked off girl’s bathroom on the top floor, and the death of Angel Meadows…
It was a day much like any other for Miss Harlington, fresh out of college, and in her second term of teaching at the school, she was sat down behind her desk, sipping from a mug of steaming coffee, and grading essays submitted by her year 8s that morning. Suddenly, a small drip of clear liquid fell down form the ceiling, and landed in her coffee. This was closely followed by another, and another, until a whole stream of them was tumbling down onto her desk. As Miss Harlington looked up to her ceiling, her mouth fell open in shock at the sight of the huge wet patch that had formed there; the water was coming from the floor above. She quickly slipped the half marked essays into her bag and left the room, taking the first staircase on her left, going up to the girl’s bathrooms. A steady flow of water was seeping out under the door, and Miss Harlington had half a mind to call for the caretaker, but after hearing a crash from inside, decided to check it out for herself first. Slowly, she opened the door, and let out a piercing scream at what ever she found inside.
To this day, no one knows how Angel Meadows came to be hanging form the ceiling of the girl’s bathrooms on the top floor of the school. The official police report said that she had killed herself, but many disagreed: Angel was a cheerful, happy girl, always ready to lend a hand, and help anyone who needed it. Angel Meadows wouldn’t have killed herself, they said, she was murdered.
And Miss Harlington? No one quite knows for sure. Some say the shock put her in a mental home, other say she left the country, but a few, a few say that she saw too much – and met the same fate as Angel Meadows…
But, what happened happened and, after being closed for a few months, the school was re-opened. After an even longer period of time, the school board finally found a teacher brave (some may say stupid) enough, to take the position of Head Teacher.
Some of the old students returned, others transferred, to scared of the schools past to return, and as always, more and more new students flocked through the schools open gates, either unphased or unaware of the school’s past.
